In questo libro Gregorio Leti (1630-1701) recupera il testo dell’anonimo 'Parlatorio delle monache', pubblicato nel 1650 ad Amsterdam da Nicolas van Ravesteyn, arricchendolo (nel 1669) di cinque nuove 'finestre' (una delle quali derivata da un capitolo del 'Divorzio celeste' di Ferrante Pallavicino) e di altre due 'finestre' nel 1677. In esso, accanto alla denuncia della nefasta politica delle monacazioni forzate e delle colpevoli complicità della chiesa cattolica, si dispiega un’umana avventura dei sensi, giustificata dalla fede nella naturalezza degli istinti e dei bisogni affettivi delle donne, vittime incolpevoli di un’ingiusta oppressione.
