No século XXI, a idade mínima para votar na Áustria foi gradualmente reduzida para 16 anos. Esta tese de bacharelado analisa a evolução do direito de voto e da idade mínima para votar até esta última alteração. Uma vez que a educação política tem como objetivo formar alunos para se tornarem eleitores responsáveis, também são abordados a sua história, as suas intenções e a sua educação extraescolar. A questão central da investigação é: em que medida os cidadãos de dezasseis anos expressam o seu interesse político? Esta questão foi investigada através de uma investigação quantitativa realizada com 584 alunos de diferentes escolas. Os resultados mostram que a grande maioria tem interesse pela política e em votar. Eles informam-se sobre política e gostariam de ser envolvidos nos processos de decisão da escola.
