Teresa Fernandez Soneira (Havana, Cuba, 1947-) is a Cuban writer and historian that has researched and published books on the history of education and the Catholic Church in Cuba. As a researcher, she has made important contributions with her books: Apuntes desde el Destierro (1990); CUBA: Historia de la Educación Católica 1582-1961(1997); Con la Estrella y la Cruz: Historia de las Juventudes de Acción Católica Cubana (2002), y Niños que Triunfan - el Centro Mater, su historia y sus colaboradores (2008) all published by Ediciones Universal. In her new book, Mujeres de la Patria,Contribución de la mujer a la independencia de Cuba, she researches the role Cuban women played before and during the Cuban wars of Independence. Fernandez-Soneira believes that no story written about Cuba is complete without including the contributions of its women and almost two thousand are included in her eight year study. This work consistes of two volumes: volumen I covers the initial stages of conspiracies and the War of 1868 until the Zanjon Pact; In volumen II (still in preparation) the War of 1895, exile and the desired Independence will be covered.
