Historia de la conquista de la Nueva España es un libro excepcional. Se publicó en 1684 y, durante los siglos XVII y XVIII, alcanzó una notable repercusión en toda Europa, especialmente, en Francia.El estilo literario de la Historia de la conquista de la Nueva España se anticipa al neoclasicismo. Por ello los autores del siglo XVIII tuvieron esta obra de Antonio de Solís en gran estima. Se sabe que el autor escribió varias veces el texto.Se conservan testimonios de que Solís castigó y pulió repetidamente los pasajes de esta obra. No en vano se constituyó en un modelo de prosa para el siglo siguiente. Sin embargo, al igual que Francisco López de Gómara, nunca estuvo en América.En España, Solís será admirado por José Cadalso, que vio en su reivindicación de la figura de Hernán Cortés una inspiración para su propia exaltación del conquistador.Posteriormente, durante la ilustración española, se recuperó esta obra como fuente historiográfica de las Indias y modelo lingüístico y literario. La obra de Solís narra la conquista de Hernán Cortés. Intentan siempre ofrecer un punto de vista más objetivo que la anterior crónica de Bernal Díaz del Castillo (también publicado en Linkgua ediciones). De él Solís llegó a afirmar que se ayudódel mismo desaliño y poco adorno de su estilo para parecerse a la verdad.
