This report analyzes living standards and price levels in Asia and the Pacific in the context of the global economy. It uses indicators based on the purchasing power parities (PPP) produced by the International Comparison Program (ICP). The report highlights that Asia and the Pacific has become the main engine of global economic growth and discusses the importance of PPP-based indicators for intereconomy comparisons for policymaking and research. It marks 20 years of the Asian Development Bank’s role as the regional implementing agency for the ICP in Asia and the Pacific. It outlines refinements in methodology and notes how producing these statistics of regional and global public value has strengthened capacity and enhanced collaboration among participating economies.
