Desde que el cine dejó de ser un espectáculo ambulante hasta que inició su declive las productoras y las distribuidoras se esforzaron por promocionar cada uno de los estrenos siguiendo el camino abierto por el teatro. Las marquesinas y los carteles fueron un reclamo muy efectivo pero los programas, también llamados folletos o prospectos, permitían llevarte el sueño a tu casa, lo cual los hacía muy coleccionables.
