Cuando Luisa, una niña muy determinada, descubre un bonito cepillo rosado enredado entre los arbustos debajo de su palafito, se empeña en encontrar a su dueña. Con su hermana María como acompañante, Luisa se embarca en una aventura hacia aguas arriba de su laguna guiada únicamente por un nombre que está marcado en el cepillo. Juntas atraviesan inmensas plantaciones de banano, ven cómo el río recibe las aguas residuales de una ciudad, interrogan a niños que juegan en un parque desconocido, y recorren las calles concurridas de una ciudad extraña en busca de la propietaria del cepillo rosado. Luisa aprende muchas cosas nuevas sobre el río que llevó el cepillo hacia ella. También plantea preguntas importantes sobre las conexiones que existen entre las comunidades que viven a lo largo del río y su hogar tranquilo en la laguna.
