Nach einer Definition der für diese Analyse zentralen Begriffe wird der Plagiatsfall dargestellt. Hierbei wird insbesondere auf das Vorgehen der Plagiatsjäger eingegangen. Darauffolgend wird die Wichtigkeit, die sowohl „Plagiatsentdecker' als auch „Hobbie-Plagiats-Jäger' für das Wissenschafts- und Gesellschaftssystem haben, herausgestellt. Auch wenn die Handlungsmotivation der Plagiatsjäger bisweilen auf politischen Interessen gründen mag, so sollte ihr Verhalten - eingeordnet in einen größeren Kontext - nicht als unmoralisch begriffen werden, da sie einen hohen gesellschaftlichen Wert hat.
