Esta investigación trata sobre las alteraciones que atraviesa la capacidad jurídica de personas con signos de discapacidad intelectual en el espectro jurídico de Perú y de Brasil. Se parte observando cómo la capacidad jurídica estaba regulada y cómo hoy se postulan nuevas formas de comprenderla y de entender en general, la autonomía y subjetividad de las personas. Se hace un recorrido por las historias recientes de las reformas legales que alteraron los códigos civiles peruano y brasileño, y se observa más de cerca cómo se están aplicando, en las ciudades de Río de Janeiro y Lima, las nuevas normativas que anunciaban expectativas de emancipación.
