Biomasse-Rauch ist der Rauch, der bei der Verbrennung von organischem Material wie Holz, Holzkohle, Ernterückständen und tierischen Abfällen entsteht, und ist eine wichtige Quelle der Luftverschmutzung, insbesondere in ländlichen Gebieten, wo Biomasse häufig zum Kochen und Heizen verwendet wird. Studien haben gezeigt, dass der bei der Verbrennung von Biomasse entstehende Rauch eine vielfältige Zusammensetzung von Gasen und Partikeln aufweist, darunter Kohlenmonoxid, Stickstoffoxide, flüchtige organische Verbindungen und Feinstaub. Diese Schadstoffe können eine Reihe von Gesundheitsschäden wie Atemwegserkrankungen, Herz-Kreislauf-Erkrankungen und Krebs verursachen.
