A folha da Chloris barbata (SW.), que faz parte da família Poaceae, é usada na medicina tradicional indiana para tratar atividades antipiréticas e analgésicas. O presente estudo investiga as atividades antipiréticas e analgésicas in vivo do extrato etanólico das folhas de Chloris barbata (SW.) EECB em ratos normais, para reduzir a temperatura. A toxicidade aguda foi estudada em ratos após a dose oral de EECB para determinar a dose para avaliar as atividades antipiréticas e analgésicas. A administração oral de EECB não apresentou toxicidade e mortalidade na dose de 2000 mg/kg. EECB (100 e 200 mg/kg) foi administrado a PCM (20 mg/kg, oral) em ratos com atividade febril induzida por levedura de cerveja durante 18 horas. As duas doses de EECB mostraram uma diminuição significativa na temperatura corporal na atividade febril tratada e também atividade analgésica no teste de imersão da cauda e no método da placa quente realizados em ratos albinos, mostrando respostas positivas. Esses efeitos do EECB (100, 200 mg/kg) foram comparáveis aos do medicamento padrão paracetamol. Os resultados deste estudo experimental indicaram que o EECB possui atividades antipiréticas e analgésicas.
